October 6, 1998: Mr.Choompol Sawatcharee, the sick ranger of cancer received money support of ß8,000 Baht as well as food and miscellaneous stuff for daily use from WFCC in order to support the burden of the expenses during his sickness and got no income. Mr.Choompol is a ranger of Songtai wildlife protection station, Thungyai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary. Many years ago he got a small accident with his leg and he did not pay much attention because there was only a small wound. When time pass by, he got more and more pain on his wound and finally the wound got worse. At that time Thungyai is one of the most un accessible place for people, difficult to get in and out. Then he tried to cure the wound by whatever he could find in the wild. Without proper treatment, the would developed to leg cancer. When WFCC found him then decided to take him to Rama hospital, the most advance cancer research hospital in Bangkok. Unfortunately, it was too late. After the doctors saw the X-ray film then told WFCC that he could live at most not more than 2 months from now on. One way to save his life is to cut off both of his legs. Mr.Choompol was informed about this fact and refused to have his legs cut off because without legs he could not patrol in Thungyai forest anymore. He then asked WFCC to drive him back to Ta Kra Dann temple not far from his house in upcountry, hoping that the famous monk could save his life.
