During August 3-4, 2005, the first Youth Eco-Conservation Camp was held in support of Mr. Erb Cheongsa-ard, the Chief in Command of Thungyai Naresuan. The Eco-Conservation Camp, directed by Mr. Anan Sriphudphong includes 60 primary students from Baan Klitee School and Baan Huay Sua School. The objective of the camp is to concrete a chance for new generation to do field-learning about nature, environment, and ecosystem of Thungyai Naresuan in appropriated, creative direction. The camp is especially aim to inspire youth’s consciousness of conservation and, ideally, to expand their faith and experience to urge their relatives to be aware of the signification of forest through their lives and communities located around the forest area.
Over the 3 days and 2 nights, students learnt and did both inside and outside activities following the schedule Mr. Anan, together with other officers, had set. On this regards, ome specialists were invited to give lecture, experimentation, and leaded to other activities that are; lecture about Thungyai Naresuan ecosystem, wildlife track duplication and identify, Stream Detective activities which student could learn each species of marine specimens which can identify the quality of water and their condition, video learning of wildlife circle, wildlife drawing, etc., including intervening recreation to relief the serious atmosphere of learning.
On this regard, WFCC had supported the Eco Camp Project by assigning Mr. Pranuch Phoomphuk, WFCC technical officer, to be co-lecturer, and general coordinator through the project. After the project finished, Mr. Anan Sriphudphong also arranged some of the technical officers to give lecture to students in other schools that had not attended the camp.
We can say that the camp is positively success since it was the first step of Thungyai’s burden on academic field. It is the beginning of academic and public relation progress of Thungyai Naresuan through this kind of activity which Mr. Erb Cheongsa-ard intends to continuously and progressively arrange for the target communities around Thungyai area. Hopefully, it can reduce the contrary between Thungyai officers and villagers; also it can draw their attitude to the same understanding and cooperation on protecting the reserve area.
