Stage#3   November 18 - 22 , 2004

                  November 18 , 2004
11.00 pm. 2 trucks loaded with construction materials and 10 WFCC members started off from WFCC office to Kanchanaburi and picked up Mr. Nitas , another WFCC member at a quarter after midnight .

                  November 19 , 2004
05.45 am. : We arrived at the head quarter and met 4 rangers controlling a group of 20 new rangers exercising in the grass field . We had coffee and breakfast with rangers here then distributed some electronic torches to the rangers as to minimize the usage of torch battery in the wildlife sanctuary which is WFCC new project . We picked up 4 rangers with us to join the mission and left off at 8.30 am.

9.20 am. : Just 2 kilometers from Tilkong wildlife protection station , we had to stopped due to the old tree fell down across the track . We took down the antenna tower from the truck then slowly proceeded under the fell down tree , when passed , we moved the antenna tower back to the truck again .

11.30 am. : We arrived at Maharaja wildlife protection station and had dinner here  and continued the journey at 13.00 pm. We had to stopped a second time at the foot of the Dongwee mountain because of another tree fell down across the track , we did the same way as before and got passed .

4.15 pm. : We arrived at the top of the Hermit mount and met Mr. Jitti and other rangers , the materials and equipments was unloaded , then Mr. So and Mr. Un started the preparation work of antenna tower set up .  They spent an hour leveling the concrete base so that to installed the first part of the antenna tower . After the first piece of the antenna tower was attached to the concrete base by bolts then the second piece was lifted high and attached to the top of the first piece . And that ended the first day work , then we walked down hill at 5.30 pm. headed to Sesawo wildlife protection station . That dinner was great may be due to a lot of fresh food and vegetable , members and rangers were happy , we discussed about tomorrow work plan by the fire while the temperature was gradually decreased and when we felt cold , we dispersed to ours sleeping bags .

                  November 20 , 2004
Saturday morning , after morning coffee by the fire , Mr. Jitti and Mrs Maew , his wife and Mrs. King prepared breakfast for the group , Mr. Ko hurried off to Maharaja wildlife protection station with Mr. Peak early in the morning for  getting more construction materials . We stopped at the Hermit shrine and paid respect for good luck of the dangerous work of setting up high antenna tower.

Then the construction team walked up to the mountain top , after a short resting , the antenna tower continued . It took an hour for the first two pieces to be firmly installed because the exact 90 degree of vertical level was a must to be corrected . A little mistake of this point might resulted in unexpected dangerous accident .

While Mr. So , Un , Lek and Chai were extremely busy with the first two pieces of antenna tower , Mr. Nitas and Pranuch were moving around the hill top , controlling the wire which attached to the antenna tower to directions as Mr. Un commanded . Mr. Keng , an electrician was also busy modifying the circuit of the antenna tower light controller box .

11.00 am. The most important first 2 pieces of antenna tower was successfully installed . After the recheck of another technician team who proved the correctness of the vertical level , then the third pieces of antenna tower was lifted and attached to the top of the second one by the help of the pulley which attached on the top of the second piece of the antenna tower .

The antenna tower installation started to quickly progress after the third piece was successfully installed , Mr. Pranuch , Un and Lek took the duty of meaSuring and cutting galvanized wire and locked the end of it with bolts at the same distance of each wires . Mr. Nitas and So were at duty of lifting pieces of antenna tower while Mr. Chai was responsible for the vertical degree check and monitoring all other tasks of the installation team . Mr. Berm and Ka were on the top of the antenna tower , responsible for the most risky and dangerous task , receiving pieces of antenna power and attached , then connected wires to the 3 sides of the antenna tower and put bolts on them and locked while hanging in the height .

All antenna installation team members started to get used to their tasks , then the fourth , fifth and sixth pieces of the antenna tower were quickly installed . Mr. Berm and Ka were climbing up and down the antenna tower all that day and took a short rest after every 2 pieces of antenna tower installed.

1.30 pm. :  Mr. Panom and Toong arrived with lunch , we had fried noodle , rice and curry . After lunch , the installation team took a long break to escape the burning light of the sun .

3 pm. The seventh piece of the antenna tower was lifted up , then the time for the last one came . The length of every pieces of the antenna tower was 3 meters and 8 pieces were to be installed which made the total height of 24 meters . At this moment while the last piece was lifting up to the top , all the installation team members on ground had to hold their breathes , praying for Mr. Berm and Ka who were risking their lives on the height in the air . The time seemed to go slowly than reality , 15 minutes of the operation of the last piece of antenna tower was like an hour to us . Luckily , God was still on our side ,  we all relieved when Mr. Berm and Ka put the last 3 wires to the antenna tower and locked it at 3.39 pm.

12 galvanized wires were attached and locked with bolts to the antenna tower at every 6 meter height , 4 wires at each 3 sides . Mr. Un and Lek tightened up all wires to a properly tense while Mr. Chai and Pranuch rechecked the vertical degree of the antenna tower of each pieces  . When the 24 meters height antenna tower was secured and firmly erected by all wires , the installation team took a short break , faced up and took a look of their success of the antenna tower installation .

Then Mr. Ko came in the radio frequency , reported that he was now near the Hermit mount , the engine fan of the truck was broken and the engine temperature was high . So he would try to proceed to Sesawo station and he finally made it .

Mr. Keng , Ka and Berm climbed up to the top of the antenna tower again for the installation of the copper lightning line which took a lot of time so Mr. Lek , Un and Pranuch also climbed up the antenna tower to help installed ceramic line holders and put the copper lightning line in its holes .

6.15 pm. The sun was setting behind the Kharungpadu mountain , the sky turned orange . The work had not yet finished , the installation of the warning light at the top of the antenna tower and the controller box had to be finished this evening  so that we could test its performance . It was dark then , we switched on the neon light powered by solar cell system at the tower base , the weather was cold so that Mr. Berm who was still hanging on the antenna tower caught a cold and when the work finished , there was water came out of his noses when he landed .

7.30 pm. When all today tasks done , we slowly walked down hill in the dark , exhausted and starved , but were proud and happy of our mission success .

8.15 pm. The installation team members arrived at Sesawo station and gathered around the bonfire  for the weather was getting cold  .Only a few members dared to took a bath in the stream , most members only washed their faces due to the icy water in the stream . After that dinner we went to bed early , sleeping bags and blankets saved us from the cold .

                 November 21 , 2004
8.15  am. : After breakfast , Mr. Chai leaded the installation team to the mountain with Mr. Mee who arrived at Sesawo station yesterday evening who eagerly participated in this mission . Mr. Chai , prepared and rechecked the antennas which to be installed on the tower , then Mr. Berm and Mr. Mee climbed up to the top of the tower . When they were safely and firmly locked themselves to the tower by safety belts , the 8 stacks of folded dipole antenna was lifted up the tower top , followed by 5/8 antenna which was smaller . The antenna installation took 3 hours to be finished , then Mr. Chai tested the radio equipments by calling near by radio stations , the results and performance was approved and accepted , strong signal , clear and loud audio , no undesired feedbacks or effects of the signal in the frequency reported .

1.30 pm. Mr. Chai , Keng , Peak and Ko started off back home , I discussed with Mr. Mee about the best location to constructed the service radio house and finally agreed to choose the North side of the hill side where there were some big trees lined up and squared the location  .

6.00 pm. We walked down the hill and headed back to Sesawo station , after dinner , we gathered around the bonfire and watched the pictures of our 3 days mission and some video clips which made all members happy to see themselves be recorded in the digital media and fresh up each own memories which already recorded in everyone's hearths .

                 November 22 , 2004
The weather was cold , after breakfast we started off back home . Along the way back we saw the antenna tower erected at the top of the Hermit mount from a distance , looked grand and secured and made all our hearts bloomed .  We had lunch at Maharaja station and arrived at Tikong station by 2 pm. Mr Berm and ka got off here . We passed the head quarter of wildlife sanctuary by 3 pm. and was safely back to  WFCC office in Nakhonpathom at 8.30 pm.
