We were woke up by the noises of the birds living around the station , Mr.
Pranuch set up the tripod and scope for the group to get a close up look of wild
birds as well as gibbons and monkeys on the tree up in the mountain in front of
the station . After the morning coffee , we left for the head quarter of
Thungyai Naresuan wildlife sanctuary . Dr. Phumin visited
wildlife sanctuary exhibition hall and "E - Kae" monument , then met Mr. Urb
Choeng Sa Ard , chief in command of wildlife sanctuary who offered breakfast for
the group . By 10 am. we started off again with Mr. Urb and some other
rangers .

arrived at the Hermit mount , Mr. Tawet , WFCC chairman , went up the mountain
to unloaded the construction materials while the rest of the group went to
sesawo wildlife protection station . That evening , WFCC set up a meeting with
Mr. Urb by the sesawo stream , many topics of future and on going conservation

6 am. we were woke up by the noises of gibbons and birds living around the
station , morning coffee around the fire was an ideal activities to everyone .
After breakfast before going up hill to start the central radio construction of
Thungyai , Mr. Surin , WFCC member , gave a short speech to all rangers and
volunteers about the objective of the mission , part of the speech was
"....today
is the day we all have long been waiting for, to construct the central radio
network station of Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary. The central radio
network station will link all radio signals of other wildlife protections'
radio stations and will build up a great radio communication network system
covering the area of this great wildlife sanctuary, the
world heritage forest, and
also half of the area of the Western Complex Forest . The central radio
network station will support all activities in this
wildlife sanctuary, patrol, research, protection, reservation, conservation as well as the management even when
the critical moment come to our lives, the radio connection may be the only mean
which save our lives when emergency help is needed. The success of the mission
will stay long for years onwards as the radio signal still fill in the sky of
this wildlife sanctuary and guaranteed the existing of our beloved great nature
and wildlife.
Brothers,
many laborious days ahead waiting for you, in next 5 days we will finish the
challenging construction of Thungyai central radio network station on the Hermit
mount which is the highest spot along the side track of the wildlife sanctuary.
Very few chances in our time of lives we got, when we could do something good
and worth memorable. This mission we are subjected to construct the central
radio network station in 5 days as the plan of the central radio network station
phase4 which is not easy and challenging. Hundreds of problems and obstacles are
waiting for us on the mountain and to be beaten. Today is the great day for this
wildlife sanctuary and for us , let's make today one of our unforgettable day
for our glorious memory of our life and all wildlife of this
world heritage of the world .
...let's go up hill ... work and sweat.... and make the
days count by our own hands and people of the Thai will remember all of you as
well as the one who entering the main gate of this wildlife sanctuary which one
way or another will benefit and utilize the power of the radio network system
you constructed ."
When 33 men arrived at the leg of the Hermit mount on
that morning , then, they helped carried parts of the
radio station on their shoulders and walked up to the top of the Hermit mount as
well as other equipments , tools and construction materials. Then, carried all
the parts and materials down hill to the construction location.
When the first
part of the iron structure was assembled and erected sitting
on top of the concrete support pole then all the rest
followed . The leveling of all 8 support poles took
quite a long time because this step was an important step , mistake of leveling
of any support poles might caused a problem to the total construction of the
building and more time needed to correct it afterwards . When Mr. Un was sure of
the leveling of all support poles then the concrete work begun , Mr. So and some
rangers poured concrete into the holes where the legs of the support poles
standing in .
The iron structure assembly was going very fast due to the
design and plan of knock down structure idea and a good production by Mr. Un who
spent 10 days producing the structure of the radio station at Mr. Toe's house in Nakhonpathom
. After 3 hours the main iron structure of the radio station was
done .
At 1.30 pm. Mr. So arrived at the hill top with food Mr. Un
ordered the team to stop for lunch because almost everybody felt hungry and starving
. On the hill top there was limited space , shade and shelter was needed by
everyone to escape from the sun , so some young rangers took
the space under the truck as their shelter to lunch .
After lunch we all of us were relax scattered resting around the hill top for 45
minutes and when Mr. Un walked down hill to the construction location and
started the generator again , the team followed down hill and the construction
continued .
Viva boards was new construction materials
for us which to be installed as floor of the building , it was made of
wood and concrete like finish concrete concrete but less heavy in weight . Some
rangers walked up hill and carried the Viva boards down to the building , other
helped installing by screwing it to the iron bars . The work went so fast in
that afternoon , everybody was busy doing something all the time .Then we were
all surprised when a polymer eave designed by Mr. Tawet was successfully
installed in the late evening which ended the first day construction .
The picture of the central radio network
station which was under construction was so beautiful to us , we sat at
ease on the hill top looking down hill to the station while the sun was
gradually lowering at the horizon by its back with the painted orange sky . It
was another day to be remembered to all of us for now our dreams started to come
true .
When the sun went away we walked down hill
to the trucks at the mountain leg , during the way back to Sesawo station on the
truck back , we were talking about the radio station we constructed today and
the continued working of tomorrow till we arrived at Sesawo . We scattered in
the stream to take a bath because the weather was gradually decreased , those
who failed to do so in the evening went to bed after dinner without bathing due
to the cold . During the dinner Mr. Urb admired the team that they had done a
good work which made all of us happy .
February
26 , 2005
The noises of gibbons and birds was like a natural alarm
clock that woke up everybody , the temperature was 12 degree Celsius , morning
coffee by the bonfire was an ideal to everybody . After breakfast we went up to
the construction location and continued the work . Today's work was to
installed c - line (zinc bar) to the building to support frames of windows and
doors as well as Sherra wall . MeaSuring and cutting was practicing all day long
as well as the installing it by screwing with electric screw drivers . Some
rangers dug the soil under the building in order to make space for toilet and
kitchen .
Mr. So arrived at the
hill top with food for lunch at 1 pm. , today there was enough food for everyone
not like yesterday which the food was deficit due to the miscalculation in food
preparation . Preparing food for 33 people was not easy and a hard work , Mr. So
recalculated by comparing with yesterday's mistake and he was more correct today
. After lunch we kept on steady of c - line installing progress as well as the
ground work . We were almost temporary deaf from the noises of electrical screw
drivers , iron cutter and the benzine generator and were relief when Mr. Un
stopped the generator just after the sun disappeared from the sky in that late
evening .
We kept all electrical instruments under the
building to avoid moisture from dew which might damage it , then walked up and
down the hill and went back to sesawo station . Some brothers did not bath today
because it was dark when we arrived at sesawo station and the weather getting
cold but other did . Dinner was like a buffet party when 33 men filled in the
small bamboo kitchen , there was enough food for everybody , the bad thing was
that the food was quickly got cold . After dinner we sat round the bonfire
chatting till we felt very cold then we went to bed . Mr. Un got a little bit
sick which either was from the weather or the hard work so he took a medicine
and went to his sleeping bag prior than anybody right after the dinner .
February
27 , 2005
We were woke up by gibbons and birds as usual , Mr. Un was recovered and joined
the morning coffee . Today's work plan was to finish C - line installation and
start installing frames of windows and doors as well as the Sherra wall . After
breakfast , we hurried to work as Mr. Urb and half of the rangers would go back
to the head quarter for tomorrow's ranger exam . The work continued as yesterday
and stopped when lunch came , after lunch , Mr. Urb and half of the rangers went
away and would return on the day after tomorrow . We continued the afternoon
work , the first Sherra wood was lifted up and attached to the C line by the
screws , piece by piece , in that evening 70% of the wall was finished as well
as front door installation and 6 windows . Mr. Tawet , and Dr. Phumin group went back home after lunch which made total manpower of
the team reduced to12 people .
Dinner was
more quiet as people got less , we sat by the bonfire chatting after dinner as
usual till we felt cold then went to bed . Tonight there was more space in the
house not like other days which the house was so crowded , and there were more
free blankets too . I got sick and felt tired so I went to bed early than the
others .
February
28 , 2005
I had a long deep sleep last night and felt strong as normal , gibbons and birds
were singing as other days . We went to the
construction site after breakfast as usual and hurried to continue the work .
Today was the fourth day and the last day of the work plan according to
this mission , the Sherra wall installation was continued as well as the
extended ground work under the building to make room for cooking area and toilet
as well as the zinc roof installation. At 11 am. Mr. Nok , Ko , Nut and Supachai
went back to town which made 8 manpower left working . Mr. so arrived at the
hill top with food for our lunch at 1 pm.
In that
afternoon ,the team continued the work and finished the Sherra wall installation
about 4 pm. followed by the zinc roof installation and ground work under the
radio station . At 5 pm. , Mr. Boonchai , Mr. Jau and Mr. Ong who were on the
roof since the morning climbed down after the last zinc roof was attached to the
roof structure and put silicone on top of each screws to prevent rain leaking in
. Mr. Pranuch Mr. Bo helped squeezing silicone to fill in gaps between each
Sherra woods around the wall of the building while others helped repainting the
iron structure around and under the building to prevent the rust .
Mr. Un stopped the generator when all work
was done , equipments and material left were moved to the hill top , all the
area around the construction site was cleared , then we all walked up to the
hill top sitting at ease looking at the central radio network station of
Thungyai which we all helped constructing . That evening was another day to be
remembered for us , sun set was so beautiful , the sky was painted red by the
last sun light , the mission was completed and the construction of the central
radio network station phase 5 (last phase) shall be continued in next month .
When the sun disappeared from the sky we went back to sesawo , the weather was
cold . After dinner we discussed about tomorrow working plan and agreed that we
would help building toilets for sesawo wildlife protection station as WFCC
service house facility developing project to support future wildlife research
project and sesawo wildlife research station .
March 1 , 2005
We all woke up late except Mr. Supakit and his wife (Mrs. Kung) who got out of
bed at 5 am. preparing food for us . The gibbons and birds were never late ,
they always got up early too . After breakfast we started the toilet building
till morning to the evening , we spent the whole day finishing toilet building .
Today we lost the benzine mobile generator due to lack of lubricant , the
generators had continued worked for many days and luckily it was broken after
the radio station construction was finished or else we could not end this
mission . In that afternoon Mr. Jit , head of sesawo wildlife protection station
walked down from the patrol to Karungpadu and asked to
see the central radio network station , so we got on the truck and went up hill
, on the way up the hill we met a young
gaur stood
still in our track , unfortunately I forgot to bring the camera so we just wait
until the young gaur went away .
After dinner
we discussed by the bonfire and concluded that we would go back home tomorrow ,
when it was very late that night and the temperature reduced to 12 degree
Celsius we escaped to our sleeping bags .
March 2 , 2005
5 am. I woke up and help Mr. Supakit in the kitchen hut , it was still cold so
it was a good idea to be by the fire . When the gibbons and birds woke up the
others , we gathered round the bonfire for morning coffee and after breakfast
Mr. Un and the rangers loaded all equipments and materials on the truck then
started off before noon .
2 pm. we
arrived at Maharaja wildlife protection station and decided to spend another day
here . 4 pm. Mr. Supakit leaded us to see a salt lick near by the station ,
luckily we met 3 big gaurs lied eating , then we met a herd of monkeys on a high
big tree and a big wild boar during the way back to the station . After dinner
we chatting by Songtai stream and went to bed early to get a full relax after
long hard work , the temperature was not cold so all of us went to a deep sleep
that night .
March
3 , 2005
We
were woke up by the noises of gibbons and birds , after breakfast we visited the
exhibition hall which was under construction and more materials still in need .
Mr. Un noted down list of construction materials which to be delivered in next
trip . We left Maharaja at 8.30 am. and arrived at the head quarter by 11.30 am ,
during the way back we met many wildlife eg., crested serpent eagle which was
the biggest wild bird in the sanctuary , squirrel , kalij pheasant etc., which bring happiness to all of us . I
had a short meeting with Mr. Urb discussing about the success of the mission and
the schedule of the last mission of the central radio network station
construction . I also informed him about next week mission of WFCC about solar
cell system installation at Salawa and
Takeanthong
wildlife protection stations as well as the radio improvement at
Koengsada and
Takeanthong wildlife protection
stations . Then we headed back to WFCC office in Nakhonpathom at 7 pm .
