October 21, 2006 after discussion with Mr. Pairoj Limchareon and officers of Natural World Heritage Site Ecosystem Management Project, WFCC donated a radio transceiver to Mr. Chatchaval Phisdumkhum, the chief in command of Huai Khakhaeng WS following WFCC Ranger Support Project, then hurriedly to Khao Nangrum wildlife research station.
During the way, we accidentally met Mr. Khaew who was during feild operation for Hornbill project. We noticed his portable yaki antenna he used to receive signal from target hornbill, so we learn for more details from him. It was imported at around Bt. 150,000. In my opinion, the function shall be able to study and adapt by technician in radio communication field. So that we can use a cheaper and affordable accessory to support conservation activities.
We reached Khao Nangrum (KNR) wildlife research station when nearly sunset. We discussed with KNR assistants; Mr. Yang, Mr. Ae, and Mr. Lae about our working plan for the next day that we shall demonstrate installation to the direction Mr. Pranuch had specified on geographic map. If that still inaccessible, we shall go ahead on Plan B as previously inform the head of Huai Khakhaeng; Mr. Saksit, destruct to reinstall at in front of World Heritage Building that states computer network center of Huai Khakhaengb WS.
In the morning of 22nd October 2006 after breakfast, we began to search for an exact position to demonstrate the signal. Then we found it in the gap between Khao Kheaw mountain range.
At the position, KNR officers then destructed an old structure of water level to free the place for satellite communication system while Koh and Aun unloaded and composed its base and all accessories as well as done for the previous mission of Satellite System Installation at Thungyai Naresuan WS.
Aun fixed position for support and check water level, assisted by KNR officers, while Koh connected cable to satellite dish and LNB. Then, WFCC satellite technician connected system and other accessories, provide linkage to computer notebook, and demonstrate its signal.
Amazingly, we could catch the signal by the first time of demonstration. Mr.Koh searched for the best direction to target sky satellite. However, the signal level was still under standard, interrupted by earth barrier at the gap itself.
After discussion with KNR team, we finalized to install a satellite tower at the height upon the barrier. As WFCC previously foresee and inform such problem may occur, it was Mr. Saksit circumspect that all necessary material for construction had previously prepared.
