Before installation at the worksite which stated western beside King Naresuan's shrine, WFCC officers paid respect to Lord Buddha and King Naresuan to bless our mission run smoothly and successfully through its objective which means to the future advancement of conservation in Thungyai Naresuan that could define a wider benefit to Thailand and world wide as it has been honored as a world heritage.
Like the structure of the central radio communication network station at Hermit hill, the structural design of solar panel installation planned by Mr. Aun; WFCC mechanical technician, was also by knock-down technique. As soon as all supplies were unloaded from the trucks, totally five solar panel supporting stands were firstly installed into the holes which previously arranged by Mr. Jitti and his crews following to the plan.
After all the stands were securely installed, the next component; metal arms, were then installed to support beams. During metal arm installation, there was a confusion to all staffs when some of order marking number on each piece were faded under cover of rusting paint. At that time, Mr. Aun; the architecture was still dazzling because he lacked of sleep the night before. After tried to fit each of them several times, all component were finally settled. The game of trying to fit each piece correctly created some funny atmosphere through hard-working and could relieved our stress which had retained since the beginning of transportation somehow.
As the time passed by and we tried our best rushed up the supporting structure installation before sunset. A hundreds of different size bolts and nuts were dispersed into each one's hand. Someone worked on matching bolt and nut and then passed to another to fit in holes previously punched on the support structure, while another who has a pliers or wrench in hand tightened them. Even we need to rush up the process, our team worked happily in a warm brotherhood atmosphere. Until nightfall, Mr. Keng installed lighting bulb connected to WFCC truck's battery so that we could retain our work through the darkness.
After the last bolt was well-tighten, Mr. Aun by assists of Uncle Boon and Pae, checked the structure's alignment at all the five supporting stands to set square against sea-level. Then, Mr. Jitti placed bamboos as to support the structure. Mr. Aun checked the level again and again to ensured the total structure was properly settled; readily for panel installation securely on the next day. Then, they fastened those bamboos firmly to seize structure and again had final check its level.
The level alignment was very important because even just a tiny out of level alignment may causes a vast damage from troublesome, delay or even failure during solar panel installation stage on the following day. It would be our last day of vacation that we had to complete all the process before return to town to each one's daily routine.
The concrete component; sandstone, had prior transported to worksite by the command of Mr. Erb Cheongsa-ard the chief. We mixed all the component together in standard proportion. That such heavy overtime work with no payment but requires patient and devotion is what most of Thungyai and WFCC officer are well-familiar with, as well as during several project we have done for a decade.
According to our limited time schedule, we must finish concrete work by that night to let it dry before installing solar panels on the following day, otherwise that mission would fail since we have no more time as referred. When the first tray of mixed concrete was ready, some of us stood in line to pass each concrete bucket from hands to hands. Mr. Jitti; the final hand, poured the concrete to cast the base of all the supporting stands until totally completed at nearly 9 pm.
The warm friendly brotherhood atmosphere of working through darkness drew me to the memory of HM. The Queen's Birthday vacation six years before when we came here Maharaja wildlife station for the mission of Maharaja Wildlife Checkpoint Construction Project. That time, officers of Songtai (the previous name of Maharaja) together with WFCC members worked until 9 or 10 pm continuously for over ten days until the first permanent wildlife checkpoint of Thungyai was finally completed on 12th August 2000. At downhill and not very far from the solar cell installation worksite, it has still lies intercept the main road of Thungyai. Not only to prevent and suppress poaching in Thungyai Naresuan WS, but for all of us, it is also a perspective statue of our unity, devotion, willpower and pride. After work done following schedule and the worksite was cleared, we walked downhill for dinner prepared by Koh and Sister Maew before separated to take a rest from the hard travel and hard working along that day.
