Following the project of Maharaja Wildlife Protection Station Improvement objectively to enhance the WS effectiveness on preservative site management, wildlife protection and poacher suppression as well as to support progression on wildlife researches which has continuously performed since the month of July 2005, WFCC again traveled to Maharaja for the progressive mission on the 7th stage during 5th - 14th September 2006. Target of the 7th stage mission is internet satellite and computer center installation to arrange communication route between Thungyai and KNR Wildlife Research Station at Huai Khakhaeng WS. for the project of West Thungyai Tiger Research which is now during database collection and will have field operation started by the end of this year.
3.20 am after all supplies were loaded onto WFCC truck by Koh and two volunteers, WFCC truck headed to Thungyai Naresuan WS. and arrived the head quarter office just after sunrise. From the WS. office, we continued the way together with "Triple Five"; another old vehicle of Thungyai accompanied by Mr. Jitti and his followers; Sister Maew and Mong-Joe, transporting food supplies to Maharaja wildlife protection station. At Tikong Wildlife Protection Station, we loaded another 2 concrete columns which previously transported from Sesawo after the completion of Sesawo Wildlife Protection Station Construction project. For the mission, they would be used as the satellite's base. After loaded the columns, WFCC donated some food supplies and a new battery to replace the out of used one. The battery would store electric energy to supply for the handheld radio transceiver WFCC had previously donated for Tikong wildlife protection station. Before continued the way to Maharaja, the Triple Five was failed to start, so we had to push it forward as to start up the engine. Because lack of budget for completed reparation, Thungyai's truck usually not in a good condition; at least one or more part is out of order.
It was a very terrible route because of heavy rain, especially in damp areas with soft soil. The unmodified truck of Thungyai hardly went through each hard spot. During the way in Thungyai, the truck normally has to carried at least a few men in case it got stuck or faced with any obstacle, so that they could help push or pull the truck, dig soil, lever up sunk wheel, remove barriers, etc. Sometimes they accidentally had to stay overnight in the jungle because of too exhausted or exceptionally could not reach the destination before sunset. Several hard spots along the way named by the name of driver on each terrible accident, for example; Uncle Boon hill, Dr. Phong hill, Chief Assistant hill, etc.
To save energy during the obstacles, WFCC donated 2 sling hooks received by Mr. Jitti. He adapted them to be a snatch box. Moreover, he also applied some access iron plates from Maharaja Wildlife Checkpoint Construction Project WFCC had constructed since 2000 to place on the front-buffer of the Triple Five as to support electrical winch. Although they has no budget to afford such expensive accessory for the truck, the tackle they applied themselves was also well-using. That was an example we saw they would never just stay still, keep waiting for outside support. On the contrary, they have struggled all the time to apply anything so far as they could get to use as a necessary equipment which may help them driving forth the wildlife and forest protection mission.
Before sunset, the trucks loaded with satellite installation materials finally safely arrived at Maharaja. After finishing his significant task of safely delivering tools equipments WFCC staff and volunteer to Maharaja, "Koh" the driver who lacked of sleep for the whole night and all day fallen asleep as soon as he reached Maharaja's canteen which located by Songtai stream because of fully exhausted. "Have a wonderful sleep with a completed relaxation, my dear brother. So that we shall weave the dream of Thungyai-Huai Khakhaeng together when you open your eyes again in the next morning"
