19th - 22nd June 2005. It was the sixth mission survey which the target area was set in a complex evergreen forest, in order to monitor wildlife tracks there. Even a quite fertile vegetative cover site, we did not find such a major wildlife's tracks because of its own geography which was not a connected mountain supporting to wildlife trails. Howsoever, some clues of ungulates found along our trail, mostly of isolated animal such as guar, wild boar, Malayan tapir and red muntjac. In addition, a few signs of tiger and leopard found. Animals which can be seen during this survey mission are monkeys, langurs, gibbons, bears, birds, etc,.
In evergreen forest, there are several flora species. Above are the 3 species of flora in family Fagaceae we can easily found. They are wildlife's favorite, especially of bears. (See tree gallery)
Not only Fagaceae, plenty of fascinating flora found. Some can be identified as well as some are still await for identification. Above are some orchids and flora we are still unable to identify their species, and that would be our great pressure if there may be someone give us a useful advice at pranuch@thungyai.org
Several kind of mushrooms' beauty
Clues of lives: the first picture is dunghill of a bear, the second is scrape of a wild cat which by his intention to sign his own territory, the third is an old dunghill of a carnivore as some animals fur and bone are compounded, the fourth is scrape of a large bear on a tree trunk, the fifth is a Yellow Turtoise, and the last is Asian wild dogs' prey; a corpse of little Samba, as we can see the dog's eating behavior that firstly takes its prey by gouging his eyes, ears, takes his viscera and from his anus. All these clues are sign of forest's life. My idea is; without wildlife, the forest is dead.
Samples of some herbal in evergreen forest.
Beautiful orchid leaves with another species of tiny orchid (See orchid gallery)
A wonderful insect, an amazing mark on leave bitten by worm, and a leech looking to have blood meal if only someone pass by. These are voiceless signs of nature that always told us we will never walk alone.
