Wildlife Tracks Survey #13 Mission

7-10 November 2005, West Thungyai Tiger Research survey team participated by WCS Hornbill Research survey team walked together along wildlife track through a high top hill evergreen forest for each own project. The track at the beginning was quite terrible and we had to wade through stuffed grass field.

During the way, we found an abandoned nest of wild boar. Normally, forest walker would keep away from it because it is a home for wild boar ticks which anyone get its bite may catch a fever, loosing, vigorously infected, or even die as recent news reported.

Charming wild orchids and other wild flowers along the way which you could not keep your eyes away, painted the forest.  The first photo is Calanthe vestita. The others still unknown, and need further research.

Hill evergreen forest among fog curtain contains moisture for growth of all floras.

A tale from older rangers specified the area on above photo is an abandoned elephant track. During the track, we astonishingly found a sign of an elephant. It was such a great news of Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary that there is still at least one elephant inhabit!.

Nest of Vespa orientalis; a species of wasp. Both the nest and its poison are amazingly neat and beautiful that you will never forget even by your sight or by their touch.

Tree Fern, the hardly ever seen in Thungyai, but we may found them in its natural wealthy condition along the valley of northern hilltop.

New age rangers with forth-going research. From the beginning of radio communication system renovation, steps forward to positioning by GPS, using of digital photo record equipment, and computer access to support the research project. With correct and proper resources of knowledge, they learn and enhance their skills and experiences in becoming a field expert to result the ideal of sustainable conservation in the future.

Forest is just like our home. To look after it we have to obtain all kinds of data and information of this forest as much as we can, where is its heart, and where is its weak point which robbers may easily approach etc., so that we perceive or even estimate how to protect it. Thoroughly survey for most perception is a way.
