From our philosophy of The Western Forest Complex protection, WFCC foresee the important of wildlife research as an effective way to develop wildlife and forest reservation in Thailand. At the beginning of the year 2005, WFCC proposed a project of Wildlife Track Survey Research in West Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary. The chief of Thungyai, Mr. Urb Cheong Sa-ard agreed, and the project was initiated since then. The project is under consult of Mr. Saksit Simcharoen, the head of Khao Nang Rum (KNR) Wildlife Research Station, regarding wildlife data collection which is one of the most important methods as to build up Thungyai west database for the project itself, also for other future researches. Information and data collected will be compiled in GIS format (Geographical Information System) for easy and faster access efficiency as well as easy and clarity for understanding. The data is not only aim for wildlife track map which is the main objective of the project , other important ecological information such as water resources, types of forests, threat factors, unusual incident clues, etc., are included. The progression report of patrolling steps for wildlife data collection has been continuously submitted to Mr. Saksit for his review and recommendation following international and logical technique of field research method. During the progression meeting in mid of year 2005, Mr. Saksit advised to extend the target area to be 300 square kilometers for more precise income, also to support further tiger research of KNR Research Station in Thungyai West. Until December 2005 , in the 26th wildlife seminar at Kasetsart University, Mr. Saksit Simcharoen finally decided to work out another tiger research project at west Thungyai Naresuan WS, apart from the project he has been doing at Huai Khakhaeng WS.
On this regard, WFCC therefore , launched a project of West Thungyai Tiger Research Support, expectedly this research project will be done smoothly and successfully as WCS by Dr. Anak Pattanawiboon had supported tiger research at Huai Kha Khaeng. Moreover, the outcome of the research will be beneficially for wildlife research aspect of the country and also alert Thungyai officers to be more engaged and develop themselves in wildlife and academic field. The preparation meeting of West Thungyai Tiger Research Support Project was held at the beginning of March 2006. Objectively to inform all staff about the project plan, preparation and cooperation, the three years schedule, budget plan, and field of support. Some details of the support project includes west Thungyai tiger team training support at KNR Wildlife Research, uniforms, field equipments, data collection equipments, fuel, vehicle, etc. The project progression was respectively reported to both Mr. Urb and r. Saksit.
Hopefully, the West Thungyai Tiger Research Project of KNR Wildlife Research Station will be another step of wildlife research development. And, its assessment could bring to a better and more effective site management for the world heritage forest and the western forest complex providing a more secure and sustainable conservation of its pristine ecosystem.
