The old Hermit shrine was built in the time of Mr. Kasem Rattanachai who was the first chief in command of Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary. The holy monk , Uttama , located the spot at the Lan - Tom hill ( which is nowadays called " The Hermit mount " ) for the Hermit shrine construction . The old Hermit shrine was made of wood and finished on February 17 , 1974 . In September , 1998 there was a fire accident , the wooden shrine was almost totally burnt , left only the wooden steps of the shrine . It was a miracle that the Hermit was not burnt down by the fire but left sitting in the midst of the charcoal . In year 2001 , Mr. Paiboon Sawetmalanon , the chief in command of the wildlife sanctuary at that time consulted with WFCC for the Hermit Shrine reconstruction . With the supports from the rangers , workers as well as the villagers , WFCC agreed to reconstructed the Hermit Shrine for the benefit of all sectors. Surin
