1.Area

Thungyai Naresuan Wildlife Sanctuary was established on April 24 , 1974 with the area of 600,000 hectares along the Mayanmar border .
 

2.Location

Thun Yai adjoins Umphang Wildlife Sanctuary to the north and Khao Laem National Park to the South . To the east it adjoins Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary and Mayanmar to the west .

3.Geography

Ranges from 250m to the peak of Karungpadu (Khao Thai Par) at 1,831m in the south west quarter of the sanctuary . The topography is generally mountainous with a network of many permanent rivers and streams dividing the area into valleys of several peaks over 1,500m and lowland plain .

4.Forest Resources

Due to its immense area , in fact the largest forest inland in South East Asian Regions , various kind of forest are hill evergreen forest , dry evergreen forest , mixed deciduous forest , dry dipterocarp , savanna forest , grassland forest .

5.Wildlife

elephant , serow , gaur , red muntjac , sambar , tigers , Asiatic black bear, sun bear , monkeys  gibbon , black giant squirrel , tapir ,  small Indian Civet , common plain Civet , Siam fireback , horn bill , wood peckers etc.

6.Nature Attractions

 1. Thungyai " The Great FieldW is the nation biggest grass land .

 2. Kwae Yai River flows through the wildlife sanctuary , steep cliff on its river side with many small water falls pour in it .

 3. King Kwae is the narrowest of Kwa Yai river with 6 meters at 2 kilometers above Dongwee stream end .

 4. Khao Hua Loan is a unique place , treeless mountains , on the mountain top above Dongwee stream end with a panorama view of Mae Klong River and long mountain range at horizon surrounded .

 5. Mong Plae Cliff , a limestone range at Tikady valley , another spot to see a  panorama view of the great grass field at its peak .

 6. Song Tai Tunnel , a spot where Song Tai Big Stream went undergroud through the long tunnel at the mountain leg .

 7. Sesawo Valley , another big grass field located between Sesawo and Mae Kasa wildlife protection station where Sesawo Stream flow through .

 8. Water Falls , Sesawo Falls and Huai Kue are more than 100m in height , Salwa and Takeanthong are beautiful big water falls and also the Lower Sesawo Falls which still keeps its virgin in the midst of a dense forest .

 9. Mong Dong Swamp , a big water well where various species of birds could be found .

 10. Kaurungpadu or Khao Tai Par , 1,831m at its peak and the highest mountain of the wildlife sanctuary and in the central region of Thailand Kingdom , Beautiful ancient evergreen forest and the habitat of many rare species of wildlife .

 11. Suriya River has many beautiful whirlpool , originated in The wildlife sanctuary and goes through Mayanmar .

7.The Natural Heritage of The World

The Unesco declared Thungyai Naresuan and Huai Kha Khaeng Wildlife Sanctuary to be the World Heritage Site in the meeting at Tunisia in year 1991 due to its richness of natural resources and biodiversity which hardly to be found in other place of the world which complied with the four criteria of consideration as follows :

I. its excellent in biodiversity which composed of 4 geographical ecosystem of Sundeic , Indo - Burmese  , Indo - Chinese and Sino - Himalayan .

II. excellent of natural resources and origin of many important streams and rivers .

III. important habitat to 28 rare wildlife species which close to extinction .

IV. Natural evident to Earth evolution periods , eg., Ice Age .
